Ember Center

A Spark That Started It All

Ember Center was founded to meet a critical need: survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in our community had nowhere safe to turn. Families were navigating trauma alone, and too many were left without support or a voice.

What began as a grassroots effort led by advocates and volunteers grew into a trusted resource for survivors seeking safety, healing, and hope. Over time, the organization expanded its services to support individuals and families impacted by violence while remaining grounded in dignity, empowerment, and compassionate care.

Today, Ember Center not only responds to survivor’s needs, but also works to prevent violence through outreach, education, and community partnerships — helping build a future where every person can live free from abuse.

Established in 1985, Ember Center (then known as the Women’s Crisis Center/Violence Prevention Institute) began with just a 24-hour crisis line, staffed by volunteers. From those early beginnings, the organization has grown in both scope and impact, expanding services to include emergency shelter, therapy, and advocacy, as well as community outreach and education.

Over the decades, our name and brand have evolved to reflect the growth of our mission and our deepening commitment to serving all survivors of violence.

The launch of Ember Center represents more than a new name or look; it reflects our evolving mission and commitment to serving survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault, broadening the support we provide to survivors of all forms of abuse and helps fill a critical gap in services.

Today, Ember Center stands on a renewed promise: that anybody who reaches out to us will find safety, advocacy, and healing, no matter their experience, background or journey.

Your support ensures that every survivor who turns to Ember Center finds the safety, hope, and compassionate care they deserve. Together, we will continue to fuel a future where every person can live free from violence.
